The defense lawyer's job is to force the system to acknowledge that the defendant is not just a social misfit, or a statistic, or a criminal, but a human being with hopes and dreams and fears. A human being who, like any of us, stands in need of repentance and redemption..
The question for the Christian lawyer is not, 'How can you work to get a guilty person off?' The real question is, 'Will you stand by this person, this flawed and sinful human being, and speak a word on his behalf?'

Well, this just adds more fuel to a common gripe among defendants (atleast when I deal with them) that their attorney was working with the prosecutor against them in some vast state-wide conspiracy.
One thing's for sure in this whole Colombo ordeal: There sure will be a whole bunch of Habeas' filed and some of them will inevitably land on my desk.
Oh and I'm not quite sure I'd call it a "spat", especially since I was probably one of three people who read that post, Norm not included.
