The shooter was not a “sniper.” The police provided incorrect information (”There is sniper activity in the vicinity of 5th and Adams,” that incident being the shot officers, on KRFP 92.5 approx. 12:00 am Sun.”).

He shot up the sheriff dispatch station first starting at 11:00. No one was shot there. Then ran toward church. Per eyewitnesses to shooting: First officer draws gun on him in middle of street, is shot. Second officer goes to aid first officer and draws, is shot. Man comes out of house because he heard gunshots, and is shot.

Last shot fired at approximately 1:00, a single shot.

Sniper story started possibly because perp ran to church which has a tall spire. But perp carried a high-power semi-auto and a semi pistol.

On the whole instructions to stay indoors away from windows and turn lights off was reasonable at the time.

God bless the Moscow police department, which just lost its first officer in the line of duty.

Correction: first two officers.

Big correction: Hamilton did take up a sniper's position in the church.

The recent multiple murder/suicide in Moscow, Idaho comes so quickly in the footsteps of the Virginia Tech massacre. The shooter, Jason Hamilton, had recently said during a court-ordered mental evaluation that if he committed suicide, he would try to take a large number of people with him. He killed four including himself, his wife, a police officer and a church sexton. Like the shooters in the Virginia Tech killings, Columbine, Red Lake and many others, Jason Hamilton had been on psychiatric drugs. The FDA has warned us that many psychiatric drugs can cause suicide and violence. Why then do we think it is safe to put people on mind-altering psychiatric drugs and then allow them as mental patients back into the stressful situation of a workplace or school while on these drugs? It creates chaos and disaster in our schools and workplaces. Now we're putting many of our stressed-out policemen and soldiers on these drugs and some are going berserk. Maybe it is time to demand a Congressional investigation into the link between antidepressants and other psychiatric drugs and workplace and school violence.

Or maybe it's time for me to demand that you go hijack someone else's blog comments to score your political / ideological / anti-psychiatry points. The owner of this blog is one of "those people" who takes anti-depressants, you know.
